While I was employed at the department for artificial inteligence at the Jozef Stefan Institute in Ljubljana, Slovenia, I wrote the following paper as a precursor to a larger project, that will also be published on this site. The goal of the paper was to present early results regarding our use of machine learning models in finding uncommon causes for poverty, based on publicly available data, mostly from Our World in Data. The paper was written with help from my mentor Joao Pita Costa, M. Grobelnik and Luis Rei, all JSI employees at the time.
